Reportaje sobre la gimnasta mexicana Elsa García.

In Spanish of Spain, “leotardo” is mainly what in English is called “unitard”. I guess Elsa uses the word “leotardo” because of the influence of English. In Spain we say “malla” or “maillots” for “leotard”.

Figuras del Deporte Mexicano - Elsa García Rodríguez Blancas: Gimnasia (by CanalOnceIPN)

Documentary about Elsa Garcia from Mexico.

I didn’t know the Spanish word for leotrd was “leotardo”! For some weird reason in Italy we call it “body” and I thought spanish would be similar.

Very nice documentary, by the way.

The fact that she didn’t get to go to the Olympics is so unfair! She totally would have deserved it.

Maybe they said it in the video and I didn’t get it, but is she still competing?

And do they say something about a medal that was taken away from her?

She is so lovely! Awesome documentary. I love that they totally ignored the soccer team for her, lol. That’s HUGE deal, soccer is freaking huge in Mexico. Like scary.

If anyone is interested I could try to do a translation of the video.

They took a bronze medal away from the Mexican team at Pan Ams in Rio de Janeiro because one of the gymnasts got injured, so the alternate competed, but they had registered the athlete as a coach by mistake, and they disqualified the team.

I was wondering if she was still competing because I haven’t heard from her in a long time, but at least when they made this documentary she was still training. She says they tried to retire her after Beijing but that she couldn’t let herself quit after she had worked so hard. That she’s not the kind of person to give up on her dreams.
